Grand Cru, Grand Value
2004 Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Lowest Price in the Nation

To kick off the weekend, we offer a Grand Cru Burgundy steal...

The deal is such today that this offer goes out to a very small list. To quote American Express: "Membership has its privileges."

At $51.95 our price today is $24 below any other pricing on Grivot's Grand Clos de Vougeot.

In top vintages like 2005 the bottle goes up to and beyond the $200 mark. Yet Grivot's Clos de Vougeot is a consistent wine and even in less hallowed vintages like 2006 and 2007, pricing still starts at $100.

This is as good as it'll ever get on this bottle.

At a sprightly eight years young, Grivot's 04 Clos de Vougeot is just entering what should be a nice 4-5 year drinking window.

The mid-palate has begun to open up, leading with a combination of dark and bright red fruits that are saturated with crunchy minerals, spice and a brashly textured richness. The Burghound sums it up quite accurately when he writes, "bold, intense, powerful and chewy with an earthy, well-structured and impressively long finish."

There is no doubt that 2004 does not achieve the depth or palate presence of the bigger vintages - yet the best of the vintage have been grossly overlooked... and in this case, grossly underpiced. With the monster 2005s waiting in the wings as the 2004s came to market, the vintage got lost in the mix.

This is both a shame and gift. It's a shame because there are some lovely, fresh and aromatic wines. It's a gift because the deals on 04s can border on the absurd.

Grivot doesn't quite make the short list of Clos de Vougeot masters - the holdings just don't match Leroy or Mugneret-Gibourg or a Chateau de la Tour. Still, it is a solid, solid bottling and their holdings flaunt 50-year-old vines that give the wine a serious concentration.

With each passing year, top 1er and Grand Crus seem to move ever upward... here is a small parcel of relief.

These will sell out quickly - give us your maximum order and we'll do our best.
