Grand Cru Icon:
2017 Drouhin Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Bottles and Magnums

Posted by Ian McFadden

There are many who say that the Marquis de Laguiche parcel is the greatest in all of Montrachet.

Drouhin's Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche is one of the legendary wines of Burgundy.

The Drouhin family has farmed this prestigious 2.06-hectare vineyard since 1947, though it has belonged since 1363 to one of the oldest aristocratic families in France, from whom it takes its name.

If Montrachet is known for a coating lavishness, Marquis de Laguiche carries this grandeur with an uncommon energetic mineral streak. Montrachet doesn't get any more graceful or finessed than Drouhin's Marquis de Laguiche. It's the combination of powerful, layered complexity with a detailed, vibrant minerality that has landed the wine a huge fan club. Taste Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche and it's clear that it's a wine for the ages.

As you would expect, the 2017 Montrachet Laguiche is simply awesome. It's incredibly pure with a thundering complexity. Burghound's note captures the wine well when he writes that the 2017 is "super-fine but intense and tautly muscular".

This is one of the crown jewels of the great 2017 white Burgundy. I'm happy to be able to offer both bottles and magnums at very sharp pricing.

Burghound "This is also quite aromatically restrained with its decidedly cool and relatively airy nose that mixes a dollop of wood toast with plenty of floral, citrus and white-fleshed fruit scents. The super-fine but intense and tautly muscular large-scaled flavors possess a subtle minerality that carries over to the gorgeously complex, persistent and balanced finish. As it should be, this is very clearly built-to-age and a wine that should enjoy an extended maturity curve."
