Hiding In Plain Sight:
2017 Pierre Boisson Auxey Duresses 1er Cru En Reugne

Posted by Ian McFadden

We've been beating the drum for Boisson's wines for a while. They are the most exciting white Burgundies around.

In the past, we've focused on their Meursaults and their massively overachieving Bourgogne Blanc. Today, I'm happy to turn to one of their bottles that I reach for most often, the Auxey Duresses 1er Cru En Reugne.

For me, this is the greatest value of the lineup. At as low as $74.95, this is a serious white Burgundy for the price.

This is the "hiding in plain sight" bottle of Boisson's lineup. For a producer so closely associated with Meursault, the Auxey 1er Cru En Reugne is unfortunately overlooked.

Auxey-Duresses has long enjoyed a reputation for delivering value white Burgundy. Generally speaking, Auxey turns out very mineral wines with a slightly rustic edge.

Boisson's 1er En Reugne is ruthlessly mineral, for sure, but also possesses polish and a kinetic energy. What I like most about Boisson's En Reugne is the outrageous clarity of its mineral expression. There's a luminous quality to its stony core.

The 2017 is utterly brilliant. The vintage ratcheted up the wine's finesse, clarity of expression, and overall impact. There is such an impression of focus and balance.

Recently, I drank a bottle of 2011 En Reugne that was totally gorgeous. This is definitely a bottle that ages well on the medium term. The 2017 has everything in place to evolve into something really beautiful.
