Hierarchies Crumble:
2022 Galeyrand Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge VV

Posted by Ian McFadden

Jérôme Galeyrand is crafting utterly breathtaking red Burgundy.

His wines stand out for their purity, detail, and gorgeous textures. We've been working with Galeyrand wines for the past six years and have watched the wines grow more refined with each passing year.

Galeyrand's 2022 are gorgeous, boasting saturating yet ultra-clear fruit character and a radiant transparency.

It's amazing the reputation that Galeyrand has built without any Grand or 1er Cru vineyards. It's a testament to both his winemaking and his well-situated old vine parcels.

The heart and soul of the domaine is the Côte de Nuits-Villages holdings. The most coveted wine in the entire lineup is the impossible-to-find, cult wine Les Rétraits.

Whether it's Bachelet, Fornerol, Camille Thiriet, or Jérôme Galeyrand bottlings, I'm a huge fan of Côte de Nuits-Villages reds. I do have to say that there's nowhere that the appellation punches above its weight quite like Galeyrand's lineup. His wines are where Burgundy's hierarchies crumble.

The Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge VV is a dramatic example of this. It's profoundly aromatic and possesses a suave texture. It's vivid and pulls off an incredible feat of being lifted while remaining dense and penetrating.

It's clear that Galeyrand is an incredibly sensitive winemaker that has really honed down his style. The 2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge VV is a brilliant example of this.
