I've been a fan of Domaine du Pélican since its release over a decade ago.
Pélican is the work of Guillaume d’Angerville and his winemaker, François Duvivier.
Like d'Angerville's Burgundies, Pélican's wines are animated by a sophisticated elegance, impeccable detail, and transparency. In this regard, they have no peer in the Jura.

Guillaume d'Angerville became obsessed with the Jura after a sommelier in Paris poured him a glass of Chardonnay blind, and he was very impressed, believing that it was a Burgundy. This sent him off on a five-year search to find a choice location in the Jura. He consulted with a well-known geologist to find ideal vineyards. He named it Domaine du Pélican, a reference to the pelican on the crest of the city of Arbois.
Domaine du Pélican was founded in 2012. It was clear from the start that they approached the region with a lot of excitement and an utterly sincere commitment to quality.
The Pinot Noir Clos Saint Laurent is sourced from a single vineyard that's behind the winery. The vineyard is strewn with limestone chunks that sit on grey marl. In 2023, the wine has a brilliant luminosity and focused energy.
The Pélican team was reluctant to produce a single-varietal Pinot Noir, waiting many years before releasing one. They worried that having so much baggage from d'Angerville's red Burgundies would prevent them from making a truly Jura-style Pinot Noir. The 2023 Pinot Noir Clos Saint Laurent feels emphatically Jura. It's floral, bright, and nimble. There are notes of herbs and dark minerality that could only be from the Jura. There's an incredible finesse as well.
The 2023 Pinot Noir Clos Saint Laurent is one of our favorite releases from Pélican to date. I'm very happy to offer this incredible success.
