Whenever we offer PYCM's En Remilly Nicholas et Mathis, we brace ourselves for the onslaught of orders.
We're offering this on a Friday in the summer to help tame the response.
For the 2020 1er Cru En Remilly Nicholas et Mathis, I'm expecting an even more intense response. The 2020 white Burgundies are jaw-droppingly good. Colin-Morey's 2020s even surpass the ridiculous general quality of the vintage. This helps to explain why Bobby, Crush's managing partner, named Colin-Morey's Chassagne 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot Clement Emma his 2022 wine of the year.
The 2020 collection at Colin-Morey has a radiant tension that is complemented by serious presence and length. This is an undeniably impressive collection.
It wouldn't be out of line to say that Pierre-Yves Colin's work in St. Aubin has been crucial in establishing the domaine's cult status. This speaks volumes about how impressive his work in St. Aubin is. Colin has holdings in Grand Crus and top 1er Crus, yet savvy buyers hunt the En Remilly bottlings down with the same fervor as the Chevalier-Montrachet.
Seasoned Burgundy buyers have long sought out En Remilly for the ridiculous quality-to-price ratio it delivers. Colin-Morey's wines from En Remilly are stunning. They serve as exemplars of Colin-Morey's incredible ability to render the Chardonnay grape with such purity and riveting intensity.
Colin-Morey makes two bottlings from En Remilly. Nicholas et Mathis is the rarer of the two bottlings. It's situated near the Grand Cru site of Chevalier-Montrachet. Compared to Colin-Morey's basic En Remilly, Nicholas et Mathis is deeper and more textural.
The 2020 Nicholas et Mathis is racy and has a finely etched structure with soaring floral and citrus notes. There's a stony backbone with beautiful balance and plenty of charm.
I'll wrap this up. People speak about Colin-Morey's wines in the same breath as Coche-Dury and Jean-Marc Roulot. The 2020 Nicholas et Mathis is simply stunning.
