Hitting the Bull's Eye
2013 Fourrier Morey St. Denis Clos Solon VV
& Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas

Fourrier's 2013s are monuments to his style.

Across the board, they are precise and pristine. There's an ultra-finessed clarity that perfectly sums up Fourrier at its best.

The Morey St. Denis Clos Solon comes from a 0.55 ha parcel with vines planted in 1961. The 2013 Clos Solon boasts a deep minerality tinged with earth and dark fruits. There's plenty of Morey's famous muscle.

Like all Fourrier, the Clos Solon delights the senses from so many angles. There's a suave texture, a flamboyant gloss, mineral-laden tension and ultra-elegant transparency.

Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas is a new bottling for Fourrier. The 2013 Aux Réas captures what we've come to think of as the beating heart of this lieu dit with amazing acuity. There's dark fruits, subtle notes of Asian spices and violets.

The Aux Réas is part of a micro-négociant project that Fourrier began in 2011. Similar to some members of the new generation who work partially as négociants (like Pierre-Yves Colin), Fourrier is exacting with the winegrowers that he works with. It no doubt shows in the results.

Both of these bottles offer impressive value. I honestly picked these two out because they're likely to be overlooked, which would be a shame. They're brilliant examples of how Fourrier hit the bull's eye in 2013.
