Mugneret-Gibourg's entire 2017 collection is stunning, but the Chaignots really shines this year. It's a bright and finessed vintage and that allowed a serious level of refinement to come through in the Chaignots.
The 1er Cru Les Chaignots is situated on the northern side of Nuits, abutting Vosne-Romanée. There's some of Vosne's spice and gentle richness of aroma on the nose. There is an impeccable balance between the spicy, floral aromatics of Vosne and the saturating, muscular palate of Nuits.
The 2017 Chaignots really makes clear just how seductive Mugneret-Gibourg's wines can be. It's been many, many years since we've been able to offer their Chaignots. I'm very happy to have landed this modest parcel of 2017s. The wine is simply gorgeous.

Burghound: "This is also quite aromatically elegant with its slightly higher-toned, cool and airy array of softly spiced essence of various red berries. The marginally finer middle weight flavors aren't quite as dense but they're a bit more complex on the firmer and more youthfully austere finish that offers just a bit more length. While this is only marginally better, it should ultimately make the more complete wine."
