Hitting The Bullseye:
2021 Gonon Saint-Joseph

Posted by Ian McFadden

It's becoming clear that the 2021 vintage in the northern Rhône is special.

It's no surprise that Gonon made some of our favorite wines of the vintage.

I'm really excited to offer Gonon's 2021 Saint-Joseph Rouge, sharply priced at $139.95.

In the northern Rhône, the 2021 vintage is beautifully structured, vibrant, and precise. Gonon thrived in the vintage.

Gonon's style is delicate, precise, and honest. The wines flaunt the elegant side of Saint-Joseph. The 2021 exemplifies the finessed, deeply mineral, and aromatically lifted style. They're simply gorgeous in their nuance, depth, and intricately-detailed length.

The amount of gracefulness that Gonon is able to coax from the vintage is extraordinary.

On paper, Saint-Joseph may come in behind Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas in terms of prestigious northern Rhône appellations. However, that would never occur to you when tasting Gonon's 2021 Saint-Joseph. This is an incredible success that shouldn't be missed. I'm happy to have another opportunity to offer this.

Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media: "Vibrant, mineral-accented dark berries, cherry-cola, potpourri and olive aromas show outstanding detail and spicy lift. Nicely concentrated but nervy as well, offering intense blueberry, cassis, bitter cherry and salty olive flavors with a bracing snap of cracked pepper. Shows impressive tension and finishes very long and precise, with well-judged tannins coming in late."
