Home Run in a Stunning Vintage
2014 Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux
Everything indicates that 2014 will be an epic Chablis vintage.
The short version is that it combines classicism with mineral drenched concentration.
We've been excited to start tasting through the vintage in earnest. Our tastings through Piuze's 2014s confirmed this is a really important vintage. As a whole, this is one of the most impressive collections that we've seen from him.
The 1er Cru Butteaux was the star of our recent tasting. It represents the point where the value and brilliance of the vintage intersect in a profound way.
Since his first vintage in 2008, Piuze has done nothing less than send shockwaves across this Kimmeridgean-laden landscape. Piuze immediately entered at a very, very elite level of winemaking.
Piuze's Chablis are dense, with concentration and a textural element. They translate the stone and minerals that dominate Chablis into something powerful and gushing, yet consistently transparent.
Butteaux is one of our favorite sites in Chablis. While Butteaux doesn't have the volume or intensity of the top Grand Crus, we love the site for its fineness and pointed expression of Chablis' signature minerality. Piuze's 2014 Butteaux has an electric spine of stony minerality and acidity, backed up by perfectly ripe stone fruits.
The 2014 Butteaux is a home run for Piuze. It's nice to be able to offer a wine of this caliber at this pricing. We expect this to quickly disappear. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
