When it comes to truly authentic, old-school Côte-Rôtie, Levet’s wines have no peers.

Levet's La Chavaroche has long been a favorite at Crush, but today we turn to their Les Journaries bottling.

The Les Journaries comes from 45-year-old vines from the famed “La Landonne” vineyard. Compared to Chavaroche, Journaries is more graceful. Both wines are made following unyieldingly traditional methods that highlight the untamed fascination that Northern Rhône can possess.

The 2016s are deeply compelling. They possess great concertation, but they also have a dynamic mineral quality that creates an added sense of elegance and energy. The Les Journaries is more approachable early on than the La Chavaroche, but the ‘16 will age beautifully for a decade or more.

For years, Levet's wines were seriously underappreciated, but that has changed. The interest in the traditional wines of the Northern Rhône have caused Levet to be discovered and for the wines to be tightly allocated. The Les Journaries comes from a mere third of a hectare and we expect it will be gone fast.
