A Burg to Take Notice Of
2013 Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos
"How the hell have I missed Duroché?" -Neal Martin
Duroché's wines caught many of us off guard. Once you taste the wines, you're immediately convinced that they're important.
Pierre Duroché joined his father at the estate in 2005 and quality has skyrocketed. Thankfully, Duroché's prices prove that word still isn't out on the domaine. But these days are numbered.
Across the board, Duroché's wines offer a stunning depth of complexity and amazingly clear terroir imprints. I focused on the Gevrey from the Lieu Dit Le Clos because it offers a perfect introduction to the domain and represents incredible value.
The 2013 Le Clos offers a textbook expression of Gevrey's earthy minerality with captivating refinement and detail. The purity of the 2013 vintage is on bold display in the wine's red fruits and combination of punch and energy.
I'm constantly tasting new Burgundies, looking out for value and the next big discovery. Duroché is one of the year's highlights on both accounts. Happy to offer.
