For many people today, Lamy is one of the most exciting producers of white Burgundy around.
Lamy's wines are grandly sculpted with eye-opening rigor. Their track record for aging owes a lot to the density and firm, mineral backbone.
The Bourgogne Blanc Les Chataigners is sourced from a high altitude, low yielding vineyard that's just over 1ha. The site produces wines with a steely and stony minerality and a layer of high-toned richness. It's become one of our go-to white Burgundy values.
Hubert Lamy is one of the standard-bearers for St. Aubin. Out of the impressive lineup, the 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard and 1er Cru Frionnes are the most incisive, boasting a shimmering saline minerality. La Chatenière, along with En Remilly and Murgers des Dents de Chien, are considered St. Aubin's top sites. It's a steep, very well exposed climat that delivers an enveloping and powerful minerality with a driving tension.
Finally, the two villages wine from Puligny "Tremblots" and Chassagne "Le Concis du Champs" are serious overachievers. Concis du Champs comes from the lower section of the hill in Chassagne, and you can feel a saturating presence to the wine. However, what makes this a bottle that we return to often is the zip and edgy minerality that Lamy gives to the wine. Puligny "Tremblots" delivers old vine concentration and a nervy high-toned profile.
Lamy's wines tend to get snatched up quickly. It's rare that I have the opportunity to offer older vintages, especially from sites like Chatenière and vintages like 2014. I should warn you that there's not very much wine to go around. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
