"I adored this range from Berthaut"
2022 Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin

What Amélie Berthaut does with Fixin is awe-inspiring.

These are pure, refined, and mineral expressions of the village with just the right amount of rusticity to stay true to the nature of Fixin.

It's worth pointing out that even though she has become associated with Fixin, the domaine has holdings in heavy-hitting sites, including Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Petits Monts and Echézeaux. It speaks volumes that her Fixin bottlings are a large source of her fame.

For some time, the wines of Fixin had fallen off people's radars. Its heyday was back in the 19th century, when Fixin was thought to rival the quality of Gevrey.

In more recent times, wines, like Joliet's Fixin Clos de la Perrière and Gelin's Fixin Clos Napoléon, quietly cruised around for many years with a cult following among those in the know. With the arrival of Amélie Berthaut, though, Fixin has received a dose of energy that it hasn't seen in generations.

The 2022 Fixin drives home the incredible work that Berthaut is doing with the appellation. At as low as $49.95, this is a profoundly overachieving bottle of red Burgundy for the money.

The domaine was incredibly successful in 2022. Vinous Media's Neal Martin writes: "I adored this range from Berthaut: pure fruit, fine extract, and nascent wines that brim with energy."

The 2022 Fixin has clearly been elevated by the general strength of Berthaut's collection. It's an exciting example of the wine. There's lovely verve with bright and suave red fruits and a spine of acidity.

This is undoubtedly one of the best values in red Burgundy that I've come across this year. It's a wine to go deep on. You'll want to return to it often.
