Egly-Ouriet's Champagnes are extreme. They combine the density of a Meursault with the rigor and nimbleness of Champagne.
Egly-Ouriet's 2002 captures these dualities with mind-blowing success. The 02 is textural and deeply concentrated yet intensely mineral. Of course, this isn't surprising - 2002 will go down as one of the best vintages of the last 20 years.

We've been fans of Egly-Ouriet's 2002 for some time. Last year we did a small offering, but recently we landed a new parcel. We could easily just let it sell slowly over the next month or so, but the wine deserves more of a spotlight than that. The wine is that exciting.
Along with Champagne elites like Cedric Bouchard, Anselme Selosse, and Laurent Champs at Vilmart, Francois Egly is adamant about producing wine first, and Champagne second. In a region where wines are often harvested with potential alcohols under ten percent, Egly-Ouriet's often harvest at twelve or thirteen percent. This is no easy feat in a northern climate like Champagne; it is achieved by being über-meticulous in the vineyard and capitalizing on old-vine parcels from top sites.
The results are like no other Champagnes out there. Amidst the richness and power of Egly-Ouriet's 2002 is a kaleidoscopic spectrum of minerals, spice, smoke and stone fruits.
For the uninitiated, it's easy to be taken aback by the Champagne's sheer intensity. Soon enough, though, you find yourself falling for the wines. The quality is undeniable.
