We have been blown away by Castello di Verduno's 2018s.
Across the board, they are exactingly detailed and luminous Barbarescos.
For many years, Castello di Verduno has been our go-to for affordable Barbaresco. However, today marks the first time that we're offering their Barbaresco Rabajà-Bas.
This was the star of a recent tasting of over a dozen wines and the most compelling example of the Rabajà-Bas that we've tasted.
When Galloni praises the wine's "translucent expression of Nebbiolo", he gets to the heart of the wine. The Rabajà-Bas possesses a radiant clarity with beautiful precision and energy.
You would be hard-pressed to find a Barbaresco at this price point that is as well composed and sleekly finessed. The purity of fruit that it offers is impressive.
Castello di Verduno has just under a hectare in Rabajà-Bas. It's a clay, sand, and limestone site that's near to but detached from the famed Rabajà and borders Pajé, Muncagota, and Ronchi.
I'm really excited to offer this. We taste through Castello di Verduno's lineup each vintage. The 2018 Rabajà-Bas is a staggering success. It's nice to see them hit the mark so profoundly with this wine.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "A nervy, savory wine, the 2018 Verduno Barbaresco Rabajà-Bas has quite a bit of character. sweet macerated cherry, spice, dried herbs, tabacco, cedar and autumn leaves are all very nicely lifted. Beams of tannic give this deceptively mid-weight Barbaresco a good of energy and persistence that builds into a finish laces with balsamic accents. I especially like the translucent expression of Nebbiolo here."
