Drouhin's Clos de Bèze is special wine.
One of the best bottles of Burgundy I've ever had was a '71 Drouhin Clos de Bèze.
Drouhin's Bèze is a wine of an absolutely grand scale and yet retains an ultra-fine detail. Clos de Bèze's muscle is on bold display, but Drouhin's jewel-box style imprints itself on the wine with an impeccable fineness and harmony.
Drouhin produced dazzling 2016s. On Drouhin's 2016s, Burghound writes: "I found the quality here to be outstanding." The magic of Drouhin's 2016s is in their shimmering transparency. They are every bit equal to the stunning 2015s, but in a totally different style. The 2016s are crystal clear, feather weight and incredibly elegant. The wines absolutely sparkle and have an extraordinary lift and perfume.
The 2016 Clos de Bèze is simply epic. It offers so much minerality, such fineness and such penetrating complexity. Everything indicates that this will be jaw-droppingly profound with time.
Before closing, I should warn you that the parcel is very small. Word is definitely out on how good the 2016 Bèze is and the wine has become difficult to land in quantity. If you're interested, now is the time.
