Mugnier's rise to the top ranks of the Côte d'Or has been swift.

Since the 2008 vintage, Mugnier's wines have hit another level: across the range, the wines have few peers when it comes to delivering wines of transparency, fineness and regal elegance. They are simply beautiful wines.

Today, I'm happy to offer a range of Mugnier's 2011 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale in a range of formats from half-bottles to jeroboams.

For the past few vintages, I've been very bullish on Mugnier's Clos de la Maréchale. What I find so compelling about the wine is that it boasts a level of purity and elegance that I thought was impossible for Nuits St. Georges.

The Nuits is known for its muscle, its characterful rustic edge. Without betraying the inherent muscle of the Nuits, Mugnier's 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale renders it with an incredible amount of refinement. The wine delivers well-delineated notes of earth, mineral, dark red fruits and flowers.

Mugnier's 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, for me, offers the best value of Mugnier's line-up. I'd go so far as to peg it as one of the best values in all of Burgundy. Mugnier's elite status hasn't gone unnoticed and pricing has increased in pace with his stardom. Clos de la Maréchale offers some shelter from the pricing.

It's both the elegance and overall quality and the value that 2011 Clos de la Maréchale offers that caused me to go all out and buy every format that I could get my hands on.

Mugnier's 2011 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale boasts an amazingly pure expression of terroir and finesse and elegance. Burghound very accurately mentions that the "elegant red berry fruit is liberally laced with earth" and a "beguiling sense of underlying tension." And that's pretty much spot on. This is a very impressive wine.

So impressive that buying across formats makes a lot of sense - half-bottles to check-in on its evolution, large formats for long aging and parties where a bottle that overdelivers is key, and bottles, of course.

I wish I had better quantities available, but Mugnier is always in short supply. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.

Burghound: "A pure and appealingly fresh nose of relatively elegant red berry fruit is liberally laced with earth and spice hints. There is a lilting mouth feel to the energetic, intense and equally pure medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of that beguiling sense of underlying tension that makes wines like this so refreshing. There isn't the class of the Fuées but this is really very good plus I very much like the balance and harmony of the firm and lingering finish."
