"I very much like the underlying sense of tension" - Burghound
Out of Lamy's impressive lineup of Saint Aubin, 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard is the most incisive and tensile. The wines possess a screaming mineral character that we love.
The wine's stoniness and cut don't come as a surprise. Derrière Chez Edouard is a very limestone-y site that sits at a relatively high elevation.
The 2014 vintage produced simply extraordinary white Burgundies. It's one of the best young white Burgundy vintages that I've tasted. There's an impression of completeness and elegance to the wines that's special.
The 2014 Chez Edouard has a laser focus with a saline inflected, stony minerality that we love. It delivers an impressive amount of punch and concentration.
Lamy's wines are grandly sculpted with eye-opening rigor, and the way that it all came together in 2014 is pretty amazing. The domaine is a long-standing benchmark of the overachieving Saint Aubin and here you see them in prime form. Before closing, I should warn you that magnums of Lamy are rare. I don't expect these to stick around for long.

Burghound: "There is a hint of matchstick character that melds with the fresh citrus and white orchard fruit aromas. I very much like the underlying sense of tension to the almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors that also pAbramoossess a borderline aggressive salinity before culminating in a strikingly persistent and quite firmly structured finale. Note that at least some patience will be required for this to unwind as it's presently very tightly wound."
