Leflaive's 2020s are simply dynamite.
For many years, Leflaive has resided at the very highest level of white Burgundy, right there with Coche-Dury, Lafon, Roulot, and Ramonet.
With that said, the collections that Leflaive turned out in both 2019 and 2020 are incredible.
I was seriously impressed by the 2020 white Burgundies when I tasted them this spring. Everything points to this being a very important vintage.
Leflaive's are without a doubt some of the best of the vintage. The wines have show-stopping elegance, real impact and complexity, and serious cut and structure.
I like Burghound's summary of Leflaive's success: "I was knocked out with the quality and aging potential of the Leflaive 2020s, in fact it's the best vintage I have seen here in several years. I would go so far as to say that when considered as a portfolio, few if any other domaines did better."
While Leflaive's Grand Crus are hunted by collectors, their work in the Mâcon is relatively overlooked. This is a shame. It's here that you really get a sense of just how high the caliber of winemaking is at Leflaive.
Many expressions of Mâcon tend to be a little too fat for our taste. Leflaive's wines from the Mâconnais boast elegance and serious cut. The 2020 has a beautiful sense of refinement. Its level of punch, finesse, and detailed minerality bears a striking resemblance to the whites of the Côte de Beaune.
As I said recently, few things make me happier than witnessing Leflaive firing on all cylinders. They are some of the most beautiful expressions of white Burgundy. The 2020 Mâcon-Verzé is a stunning bottle.
