It's been nearly three years since our last Raveneau offering.
Being able to offer Raveneau has become a rare luxury.
Today, I'm very happy to offer a modest parcel of Raveneau's 2020 1er Cru Butteaux.
At their best, the 2020s combine power and richness with snap, tension, and Chablisien minerality. Raveneau has clearly produced some of the top wines of the vintage. Their 2020 Butteaux is especially stunning.
Butteaux has become one of my favorites from Raveneau. In Raveneau's hands, the site becomes a gorgeous weave of chiseled minerality, stone fruits, and citrus. Above all else, Butteaux is about being linear and mineral. It's a high-tension Chablis.
That is why I can't get enough of Butteaux. The elegance, minerality, and energy are beautiful. Among Raveneau's 1er Crus, it's the perfect counterpoint to the power and richness of Montée de Tonnere.
The 2020 Butteaux is a particularly intense version of the wine with a sleek saline minerality. Burghound's note serves as the perfect summary: "This powerful and compact effort is flat out terrific."
I encourage you to get your orders in early. Quantities are very limited and will likely sell out quickly.

Burghound: "A more reserved nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of mineral reduction, essence of green apple, lemon-lime and a variety of Chablis elements that include iodine, tidal pool and quinine along with moderate wood. There is excellent volume to the intense, detailed and tautly muscular flavors that display superb length on the balanced, youthfully austere and dry finale. This powerful and compact effort is flat out terrific and while it can't match the refinement of the Montée de Tonnerre, it is just as complete. If you can find it, buy it."
