"If you can find them, don't hesitate." -Burghound
The Burghound quote above makes clear that Bachelet's 2023s are seriously good. They serve as textbook examples of how Bachelet can magically craft wines that seamlessly meld intensity and precision.
Today, I'm happy to offer two of the high points of the collection, the 2023 1er Cru Les Corbeaux and Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes.Â

Corbeaux is a mysterious little plot of dirt, prone to being overlooked, as it is sandwiched directly next to the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin and the village of Gevrey-Chambertin itself. The vineyard is tough to classify, yet the choicest parcels create a wine that mirrors the complexity of the site itself, and the mysteriousness that surrounds Corbeaux always makes it undervalued.
Bachelet's Gevrey Corbeaux comes from very old vines, ranging from 60 to 70 years of age. It is a powerful, deep, and complex wine - it always shows an impressive concentration and Gevrey's typical muscle, but it carries its weight effortlessly, leaving an impression of fine-ness.Â
The 2023Â Corbeaux is grandly structured and seriously compelling. This is a wine that's forceful and packed with nuance. The architecture of this wine announces that it will evolve beautifully.Â
Bachelet's Charmes is one of Burgundy's masterpieces. For us, there's no better example of the Grand Cru than this. It is among the rarest treasures of Burgundy. Bachelet's plot is a mere 0.44ha of very old vines. Bachelet makes somewhere around 180 cases.
It's profoundly complex, deeply mysterious, and insanely powerful, yet it manages to maintain an ultra-clear, super-elegant balance. With all this said, the 2023 very much seems like an extraordinary vintage for the wine. As quoted in Burguhound, Denis Bachelet says, "it is perhaps the best that I have ever made."
The 2023 Charmes is a larger-than-life bottle. It's powerful, beautifully textured, and has a sleek finesse. The 2023 makes very clear why Bachelet's Charmes ranks among our favorites in all of Burgundy.
For me, both of these bottles sum up what makes red Burgundy so magical. I'm very happy to offer.Â
