The 2021 Chavaroche offers up a gorgeous cast of aromatics with tons of finesse and energy. Everything is presented with a beautiful, seamless harmony.
When it comes to unyieldingly honest and unapologetically traditional Côte-Rôtie, Levet's wines are without peer. They are wildly untamed, beautifully compelling, and utterly authentic expressions of Syrah. The 2021 Chavaroche captures all of this with startling clarity.
Chavaroche is a brutally rocky and steeply terraced southwest-facing vineyard. Levet is meticulous in the vineyard, but the grapes simply do their thing in the cellar – vinification is thoughtful, but there’s no artifice at work.
As we've written before, Neal Rosenthal, Levet’s importer, isn’t shy about singling Chavaroche out: “There is no more consistently great wine in our portfolio than Levet’s La Chavaroche…If you want the truest of Côte-Rôties…if you admire both the intellectual and the savage, then this is a must-buy wine.”
I'll end this now. There are few wines from the northern Rhône as uncompromising as Levet's Chavaroche. The 2021 is a beautiful snapshot of this. I'm very happy to offer this again.
