Magic happened at Roulot in 2011.
There is no 2011 collection as exciting for White Burgundy as Roulot's. And it's Perrieres and Clos des Bouchères that top the list for us.
The '11 Clos des Bouchères has become a bit of an obsession of ours. We've drunk more bottles than we should have. It's very much fair to say that this is a bottle that we love. There's a poise, a saturating mineral presence, a beautiful clarity and heartbreaking gracefulness. This is a 1er Cru bottling that can hang with top Grand Crus.
Like so many collectors, sommeliers and wine aficionados, we have long been crazy about Roulot's wines. Simply put, these are some of the most riveting and mineral expressions of Chardonnay on the planet.
For as much as we love Roulot, it's very, very rare that we're able to do offers. The combination of Roulot's rabid fan club and the limited quantities make it virtually impossible. This is especially true at the 1er Cru level.
To be able to offer a Roulot 1er Cru from a vintage where he killed it, like 2011, is really exciting. Roulot's 2011s have such balance and harmony that they promise to develop brilliantly in the cellar. Again, Clos des Bouchères tops the list in the ageworthy category.
