Clos des Ducs is one of my favorite wines. Period.
I can't tell you how many times I've been blown away by Clos des Ducs. I've tasted them back to 1920 and the way that they age is simply haunting.
D’Angerville’s 2014s show brilliant complexity and saturating minerality. As always, Ducs is a high point of the lineup.
The steep and chalky Clos des Ducs, a monopole of d'Angerville, is one of Volnay’s best sites. It produces wines of singular intensity and breeding. It has no trouble competing with Grand Crus.
The 2014 Ducs is all about beautiful clarity, finesse, and understatement. It carries Ducs' depth and intensity, but it does so with mesmerizing grace. This is a Ducs that thrives on sleek mineral elegance and unabashed savory notes. The combination is very compelling. For me, this is a not to be missed version of Ducs.
I'm a huge fan of the 2014 red Burgs, and d'Angerville's Ducs shows the vintage at its best. Highly recommended.

Burghound: "Classic ruby color. The understated nose only grudgingly reveals cool and ultra-pure aromas of violet, herbal tea, spice and a broad mélange of wild red berries. There is a really lovely vibrancy to the superbly well-detailed medium weight flavors that are intensely stony with a sleek and polished palate feel that carries over to the impeccably well-balanced, hugely persistent and youthfully austere finale. This is sufficiently supple that it should drink well on the younger side but if you wish to experience it at its peak, it will be necessary to have at least some patience."
