2014 Fourrier Gevrey Clos St.Jacques

Posted by Ian McFadden

Fourrier's Clos St. Jacques is a legendary, heartbreakingly beautiful bottle.

In 2014, the greatness of the wine shines through brilliantly.

The perennial theme with Fourrier is pristine expression, precise finesse and an ultra-seductive mineral-laden texture. And the 2014s have this in spades.

Clos St. Jacques is the greatest 1er Cru in all of Gevrey, by a long shot - one of those sites that is considered Grand Cru by many. Fourrier renders the site's indisputable nobility with the utmost precision and impact.

Precision and clarity are Fourrier's calling cards. Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family's domaine in 1994, after working under Henri Jayer. He wasted no time defining his unique style and catapulting his family's domaine into Burgundy's elite. They are ultra-detailed wines of serious transparency, finessed structures and whip-smart tension.

By the time you reach Clos St. Jacques in Fourrier's line-up, you're presented with something that's regal in scale and complexity and simultaneously delicate with an ultra-fine texture.

I can't help mentioning that Levi Dalton's I'll Drink To That! interview with Jean-Marie Fourrier is really worth checking it. You'll find an unparalleled trove of information about the estate.

I'm going to wrap this up. We're looking at a tiny quantity. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.

2014 Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques

Burghound: "This is at once cooler and more elegant with its airy assortment of pure red and blue pinot fruit, floral, spice, earth and tea scents. There is fine intensity and excellent delineation to the pungently mineral-inflected and refined medium weight flavors where the sense of refinement is enhanced by the super fine-grained tannins, all wrapped in an explosively long and perfectly balanced finale. In a word, marvelous."
