Lopez de Heredia's unyieldingly traditional approach produces aristocratic and unforgettable wines.
There's no doubt that their whites are some of the most singular wines anywhere.
It's difficult to find an apt comparison for López's white, but the first wines that come to mind are whites from Chateau Simone or Bordeaux. However, you have to toss in more exposure to oxygen and all the deep, mysterious, and subtle complexity that comes with it.
Sourced from alluvial clay with a high proportion of limestone soils on the right bank of the Ebro river, Lopez's Tondonia Blanco Reserva has a sleek, tension-filled thread of minerality coursing through it.
The Tondonia Blanco Reserva has complexity to spare. It's very nuanced with floral notes, earth, spices, mushrooms, walnuts, and a gripping saltiness. You get an umami-filled depth that's haunting.
The 2008 is a bright and snappy vintage of the wine. Expect a higher-toned profile, a chalky tensile core, and serious cut. This is a bottle that will be glorious with some time in the cellar.
You get Lopez's dynamic and regal grace in a very intense fashion. Beyond this, everything seems to be perfectly proportioned. I'm very happy to offer such a great example of the most fascinating wines around.
