In Peak Form:
2021 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne

Posted by Ian McFadden

Lafon has been firing on all cylinders lately.

When it comes to Meursault, Lafon has few peers. You'd have to look towards Coche and Roulot.

The 2021s make this obvious. Simply put, they are dynamite.

They are finely etched and tension-filled with ample power and depth. In short, they are a dream brew.

Today, I'm happy to offer Lafon's 2021 Meursault Clos de la Baronne.

Clos de la Baronne is a 2.7-ha monopole that includes 40-year-old vines. In 2021, it boasts a dazzling clarity that makes the wine especially exciting.

Lafon's villages wines are famous for transcending their categories. The 2021 Clos de la Baronne boasts a level of refinement and depth that you'd expect from a 1er Cru.  It combines intensity with a precision and verve that's thrilling. There's a punchy mineral core and silken texture that makes this an incredibly compelling bottle.

This is a bottle that shows Lafon at the height of his powers. The scale, the way it hits the senses from so many angles, and the sheer enjoyment that it offers is something truly noteworthy.
