In Peak Form:
2023 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne

The level that Lafon is currently working at is simply amazing.

For me, these are some of the most exciting white Burgundies being made. In Meursault, only Coche and Roulot come close.

It's very clear that the domaine is at the top of its game.

It's well known that Lafon's village bottlings transcend the category by a wide margin. Since its first vintage, the Clos de la Baronne has dramatized this.

Clos de la Baronne is a 2.7ha monopole that includes 40-year-old vines. The site produces wines of grandeur and power, with a surprising drive and detail.

The 2023 is classic. It offers lots of pleasure and serious rigor. I really like how the wine is so high-toned and has a lovely satiny texture. You can expect lots of ripe citrus, floral tones, and zippy tension.

This is a bottle that shows Lafon at the height of his powers. The scale, the way it hits the senses from so many angles, and the sheer enjoyment that it offers is something truly noteworthy.
