In Peak Form, Part Two:
2020 Brovia Barolo Villero

Posted by Ian McFadden

Brovia's 2020s are absolutely stunning.

A few weeks ago, we offered Brovia's incredible Barolo Normale. The wine blew us away when we tasted it. Brovia is clearly at the top of their game in 2020.

Today, we're happy to offer one of Brovia's top cru bottlings, the 2020 Barolo Villero.

The Brovia style isn't shy on power, but what makes the wines so impressive is their finesse and nuance. The 2020 vintage dovetails beautifully with their signatures. The collection is seriously powerful, but also elegant and spot on when it comes to balance.

Villero is one of the top sites of Barolo’s Castiglione Falletto commune - right up there with Monprivato or Rocche di Castiglione. The vineyard faces southwest and has mostly clay soil, which gives the wines their sense of muscle, as well as their boldness and plush fruit, flower, and earth.

The 2020 Villero has serious impact yet remains remarkably lifted, precise, and aromatically fascinating. The signature of the site is on clear display. There's beautiful refinement and it has a structure that promises that it will age beautifully. There's a quiet, slow-to-unfold grandeur along with serious cut and muscle.

The 2020 shows Brovia's site in top form and shouldn't be missed. I should warn you that quantities are limited. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.

Title

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "Brovia's 2020 Barolo Villero is a potent, savory wine. Dried herbs, menthol, licorice, wildflowers, spice and dark-toned fruit give the Villero its distinctive personality. Broad swaths of tannin wrap it all together. Dark and brooding, the 2020 is not ready to reveal its charms. All this needs is time—I can't wait to taste it in another few years. As is often the case, the Villero is Barolo that emphasizes savory/earthy/mineral notes more than overt fruit."
