Ballot-Millot has become an essential part of our white Burgundy program.
Each year, we taste through the lineup and find several gems. We consistently find some of the strongest examples on the villages level.
Ballot-Millot's 2019 Meursault is yet another example of how impressive their village wines can be. The 2019 boasts an incredible amount of textural appeal. The style straddles the oily and rich Meursaults of yesteryear and the more reductive style made famous by producers like Coche-Dury and Roulot. As the 2019 makes very clear, the results can be absolutely amazing.
The bottle punches well above its weight class. It boasts an undeniable energy and detail without sacrificing richness. There's impressive drive and presence. We agree with Burghound when he writes: "This too is excellent for its level and well-worth checking out."
Ballot Millot’s roots in Burgundy are seriously deep: they began amassing vineyards back in the 17th century. The domaine has been one to watch ever since Charles Ballot took over in 2001. When Ballot took over, he began reducing yields, improving farming practices, and updating equipment. The level of quality rose dramatically.
Beginning with the 2014, it's been exciting to watch Ballot-Millot go from strength to strength. At as low as $59.95, the 2019 is a don't miss white Burgundy.
