"Le Pergole Torte isn’t a great Tuscan or Italian wine. It is simply one of the world’s elite wines." -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Few wines are so nuanced and complicated that the more you taste them the more deeply you become obsessed with them.
For us, Pergole Torte is one of those wines. There's something about its class and incisiveness that we find endlessly fascinating.
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in the Chianti Classico zone. It is here, and in Montevertine's hands, that Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of soaring finesse and intricate composition.
When it comes to Sangiovese, Pergole Torte stands alone for how deeply complex and graceful it is. It's fairly subtle, but mind-blowing nonetheless. As Antonio Galloni writes, "Le Pergole Torte isn’t a great Tuscan or Italian wine. It is simply one of the world’s elite wines."
The 2018 is a jam-packed, grandly scaled vintage for Pergole Torte. It dazzles with how it combines ripeness and concentration with drive, purity, and lift. As always, it offers up a beguiling set of aromatics with incredibly expressive notes of red fruits, herbs, spice, and floral notes.
I'll wrap this up. Pergole Torte has been one of the most beloved and important wines of the store since we opened in 2005. The 2018 is a seriously structured vintage that will be a monument to this great wine.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2018 Le Pergole Torte is dense, creamy and nuanced from the very first taste. Red/purplish berry fruit, spice, rose petal and a touch of new French oak all build as the Pergole Torte opens with aeration. As always, Pergole shows that extra touch of richness from the selection of fruit used here, with that added texture from French oak. As appealing as the 2018 is today, it is of course a very young wine that will need years to be at its very finest."
