"It will appeal to Chablis purists"
2021 Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume

"It's pure and precise... it will appeal to Chablis purists."

For many years Bessin has been an insider wine quietly bought by fans of classic Chablis. We've been blown away by recent vintages. The wines combine honesty, polish, and intensity. Bessin-Tremblay is producing some of the best examples of Chablis that we've tasted.

Bessin-Tremblay's 2021s are beautifully classic Chablis. The collection boasts plenty of concentration and incisive mineral cut.

One of the surprise standouts is the 1er Cru Fourchaume. This is a knockout bottle. It's a wine that we buy each year, but the 2021 really stands out for its rigor and depth.

In 2021, Bessin didn't bottle any of his Fourchaume Pièce au Comte, which hails from a choice old vine parcel. The inclusion of this wine makes itself felt in the wine's unusual intensity.

The vintage helped to create an emphatically mineral example of the wine. As William Kelley writes, "it will appeal to Chablis purists." Fourchaume has a tendency to be floral and somewhat loosely knit in terms of Chablis' 1er Crus. In 2021, it has serious focus and drive. The wine brims with notes of saline-inflected crushed rocks, and bright citrus fruits.

This is an example of a wine that shouldn't be missed. Bessin-Tremblay's 2021 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume is a great example of classic Chablis from one of our favorite producers in the region.

William Kelley, The Wine Advocate: "There's no Pièce au Comte this year, so everything went into the 2021 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, an attractive wine that unwinds in the glass with aromas of honeycomb, white flowers, oyster shell, orange blossom and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, bright and satiny, it's pure and precise, with racy acids and a delicately honeyed finish. While it's still a touch shut down after its recent bottling, it will appeal to Chablis purists."
