We first offered Bachelet’s 2010 Côte de Nuits Villages back in 2012, and it was one of the best versions of the wine I had tasted.
So when another small parcel became available, I jumped on it.
Bachelet’s top-to-bottom quality is staggering; you can taste at any level, from the Aligoté to his epic Charmes-Chambertin and be thoroughly impressed.
For me, the greatest value is a good vintage of Bachelet's Côte de Nuits Villages. It sums up everything that I love about the estate - it's authentic, soulful and deeply complex.
The 2010 Côte de Nuits is beautiful. It has a gorgeous transparency, purity and pristine expression. Yet, the low yielding vintage packed it with loads of tactile concentration. The reason why I think the 2010 is so special is that it simultaneously comes across as energetic and pure while offering loads of presence. In 2010, the Côte de Nuits Villages is endowed with even more detail, precision and lift.
For a domaine that commands such a broad fan base, Bachelet's estate is disproportionately small, just under 4 ha. Their Côte de Nuits Villages is sourced from four parcels in Brochon that total a mere .37 ha. Brochon is an insider's village just north of Gevrey, known for producing very serious, very high quality fruit.
Bachelet’s Côte de Nuits Villages is a startling example of the domaine’s ability to transcend all designations and expectations. While the 2010 will certainly continue to evolve for the next 5-10 years or so, it’s beginning to enter its window and is already drinking beautifully.
I wish I could say something encouraging when it comes to quantities. Let's just say that this is the sort of offer that we'd only entertain sending on a holiday weekend.

Burghound: "A ripe, pure and relatively elegant nose of very dark pinot fruit with plenty of earth and underbrush nuances that add breadth. There is an impressive amount of dry extract to the mouth coating and velvety medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture on the balanced and attractively complex finish. It's rare to see this level of quality from this appellation."
