Jaw-Dropping 2015 Red Burgundy Value
2015 Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin “Champ”

Finding great value in the Côte de Nuits can be a real challenge.

For us, Duroché has been a godsend. The wines are startling in their elegance, vividness and value. When you taste Duroché, it's clear that important things are happening at the domaine.

The "Champ" represents one of the greatest values in 2015 Red Burgundy that we've tasted. Since Pierre Duroché joined his father at the estate in 2005, quality has skyrocketed. Thankfully, Duroché’s prices prove that word still isn’t out about the domaine. Duroché’s 2015s represent a high-water mark for the domaine.

Already, the 2015 red Burgundies have placed themselves squarely among the best of the past decade. There's drive, concentration and shocking finesse. We've said this before, but it's at the village level that 2015 really shines.

Duroché’s Champ comes from northern Gevrey, averaging 40-45 year old vines. Champ's signature is refinement, freshness and detailed minerality. In 2015, the Champ comes across as the total package. There's a boldness and depth that we haven't seen in Champ before, along with a punch-y soil-inflected minerality and finesse.

It's nice when you discover that Burgundy still has under-the-radar gems to offer like Duroché. There's no doubt that word is getting about the wines and that pricing will quickly move northward. For now, let's just be happy that this wine is priced so well in 2015.
