Antoine Sunier is one of Beaujolais' most talented young growers.
His 2020 Régnié drives this home so strongly that there can be little doubt.
Antoine Sunier started his domaine in 2014. We taste the wines each vintage. However, this is our first offer of Sunier. Simpy put, we were incredibly impressed by his 2020 Régnié.
Sunier makes wine in both Morgon and Régnié. While Morgon enjoys a much greater reputation as an appellation, Sunier's work in Régnié really stands out.
In 2020, Sunier's Régnié is brilliant. It's beautifully suave with a stern acid and mineral backbone. We love that the wine has such a seductive mouthfeel along with a high-toned and incisive character. It's complex in its layers of herbs, earth, stony minerals, and a wide spectrum of bright red fruits.
Antoine Sunier is the younger brother of Julien Sunier, who is also one of Beaujolais top young growers. Antoine worked with his brother at Jean-Claude Lapalu. In 2014, Antoine founded his own domaine focusing on organically farmed vineyards, carbonic maceration, and minimal intervention. The results of his small domaine (3ha in total) are stunning.
We first tasted Sunier's 2020 Régnié in a tasting of thirty different wines. Among all of them, it was one of the top few wines of the tasting. Sunier hit the mark with the 2020 Régnié.
