2009 Drouhin Chambolle 1er: JEROBOAMS

If this is a wine that can easily last 15-25 years in 750ml, you can guess what that might mean for a format that is four times that size.
Last week, we sent out an email on Drouhin's stunning 09 Chambolle 1er Cru and I wrote, "I can't think of another red Burgundy under $100 that I'd rather drink now and through the next 15 years, more than this wine."
This bottle represents a beautiful confluence of factors: Drouhin's jewel-box purity, the delicacy and perfume of Chambolle, the depth and lavishness of 2009.
This bottling is superb - I'll leave it at that (if you'd like to re-read the initial offering, you may do so here).
Today, however, we come to the table with a truly microscopic quantity of very big bottles of this wine.
As far as we know, these are the only 3.0Ls of this wine in the world. The pricing is as sharp as you'll ever see it at only $339 - virtually no upcharge for the rarity and ageability of the format.
This is a wine that has the stuffing, the grace, the poise, the persistence to last 15-20+ years out of 750ml bottle - which means that it should easily power on for at least three decades in this format. The greater proportion of wine to oxygen inside the bottle simply makes for slower, more even aging.
Not to mention, there's the not-so-little matter of the sheer impressiveness of a double magnum when it rolls up to a party. For those born in 2009, this makes one very, very cool bottle to pour at their 21st birthday, wedding, etc.
