The studious Julian Haart scholar may note that there is no single-vineyard, Grand Cru Frauenberg GG this year.
We'll give you one guess as to where this wine went.
If Haart's "Rote Erden" bottling has quickly earned a very serious following, this year's version is, in a way, turbocharged: Yes, for 2024 only, this is the Grand Cru Frauenberg GG.

What we have, in other words, is essentially the single-vineyard, Grand Cru wine, declassified into a village-level offering. Today, the wine is available at around 50% of what Haart's Frauenberg normally trades for on the secondary market (around $100-$150).
In the last few years, Julian Haart has become one of the most collectible German growers, right there with Keller and Egon Müller. His signature style is one of finely layered fruit, kaleidoscopic and glossy, polished to a mouthwatering clarity.
Yet, this opulence, the profound depth of fruit, is countered by one of the most sculpted, most chiseled, and authoritative acidities in Germany. This, in short, is the magic.
At as low as $49.95 on the four-pack (you have to drink one now, then put as many away as you can!), this is, again, one of the unquestionable deals of this classic vintage.
Yet, as we noted last year, while nearly all of Haart's single-vineyard wines are maddeningly hard to get, this wine is available... at least for the moment. This is your chance.
We wrote about the micro-expansion Haart had in the Rheinhessen last year. The short story is that parcels were arranged in the Rheinhessen for Haart by the Kellers in exchange for their taking over Haart's Schubertslay parcel in the Mosel. So the "Rote Erden" is one of the rare Haart bottlings from the Rheinhessen.
The 2024 "Rote Erden," from this crystalline, classic vintage, is simply a knock-out - it is easily the best-ever "Rote Erden" and a wine that, frankly, flirts with the best of Haart's wines from the Rheinhessen. It has everything that has made Julian Haart such a celebrated grower.
Yet, what we warned about last year is happening: The "Rote Erden" is developing a serious following. This year, with this raw material, the wine will be very in demand.
Do not sleep on this one.
