"Domaine des Lambrays cuvées are pure magic this year and these are clearly amongst the greatest wines I tasted from this historic vintage. Do not miss these wines!" -John Gilman

Domaine des Lambrays and their eponymous Grand Cru have been on the rise lately. The 2010 vintage here, however, has taken the estate to a new level.

While the estate has no doubt faltered with this Grand Cru site any number of times throughout the latter half of the 20th Century, the historic domaine has rapidly returned to form.

We're really happy to see this, because Clos des Lambrays is capable of producing shockingly good wines. The Clos des Lambrays has a storied past - the 1949 is one of the legends of the CĂ´te d'Or.

As Gilman's note above makes clear, the 2010 Lambrays is the best vintage that we've seen from Lambrays in a long time.

Lambrays is currently in a strange position and this presents a huge upside for the buyer. The wines are gaining serious momentum yet, at the moment, the pricing remains stuck in the past.

Morey-St-Denis is often presented as a blend of the brawn of Gevrey and the elegance of Chambolle, and the 2010 displays this wonderfully. There is a commanding structure with a fair amount of muscle and tannic backbone and yet, there are floral tones and those tannins have a suaveness to them.

What's most striking about the 2010 Lambrays is its purity, its precision and it depth. Gilman captures this well when he writes, "the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully pure on the attack, with a reserved and refined personality."

2010 Lambrays is a gorgeous wine. I write this with some reluctance, because of how limited this is. Yields were reduced 25% at Lambrays and even with the limited scope of this email, we'll likely have to allocate.

John Gilman: "The 2010 Clos des Lambrays is unequivocally the most profound young wine I have ever tasted from this great domaine. The stunningly complex and very floral bouquet offers up a supremely elegant aromatic mélange of cherries, blood orange, a touch of red plum, kaleidoscopic minerality, woodsmoke, peonies, violets, a nice dollop of fresh herbs and a discreet base of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully pure on the attack, with a reserved and refined personality, a sappy core of red fruit, flawless focus and balance, very suave, but substantial tannins, tangy acids and glorious transparency on the seamless and boundless finish. Just a brilliant, brilliant wine in 2010!"
