In 2006, Yvonn Métras purchased .6ha of Moulin-a-Vent near his home.
I wish it was more available, because Métras' Moulin-a-Vent is an absolutely fascinating expression of the Beaujolais Cru.

Métras' Moulin-a-Vent is even more limited in 2012, because yields were way down. Beaujolais saw up to a 50% reduction in yields in 2012.
As we've said before, if you need to find a silver lining, the only good news is that the small amount of wine that was produced is really impressive in its vividness, its concentration and its sense of completeness and length.
Our two previous 2012 Métras offers sold out quickly. The Moulin-a-Vent is significantly more limited. This offer is only going out to people who have supported the Beaujolais program. Even so, a sellout is likely.
Moulin-a-Vent is commonly considered the King of Beaujolais, known for being the longest ager and easily one of the most complex of the Crus. Métras’ MaV shows some of the muscle of Moulin-a-Vent, but all of this seems channeled through his Fleurie background- there’s still an indisputable dose of grace and delicacy to Metras' MaV.
Like all of Métras' wines, the MaV stands out for its texture and the extra level of complexity that it offers. If the Fleurie is silken with a fierce streak of granite minerality, the MaV is meaty, simultaneously velvety and slightly granular. The minerality is iron tinged.
For fans of Métras, it's really worth it to check the MaV out. The textbook distinction is that Fleurie is the most feminine of the Beaujolais Crus and MaV is the most masculine. It's a bit trite, but it does work here. To see one of Beaujolais' best winemakers working both sides really deepens your understanding and appreciation of Metras' winemaking skills.
