Keller is recognized as one of the greatest domaines in the world.
Finding his wines has become nearly impossible. Today, we're happy to offer Keller's 2020 Kirchspiel RR.
It's been nearly a year since our last Keller offer and, in that time, the wines have become even more difficult to find.
RR is somewhat of an outlier in Keller’s lineup, which has allowed it to fly under the radar. It can be an absolutely thrilling bottle. We've tasted numerous bottles with up to a decade of age that have been stunning.
The Kirchspiel vineyard is a sea of limestone, except for a tiny .33-hectare parcel of red soil. This is where the Kirchspiel RR enters the stage.
Compared to the limestone GG, the RR stands out for its darker, brooding minerality. It ranges from wet stones and earth to tobacco and clay. The indigenous yeast fermentation is allowed to stop naturally when the wine is off-dry, which Keller feels is the ideal complement to the red soil.
The 2020 RR shows its precise terroir imprint: a haunting mineral cut from the iron-rich soils. Its elegantly integrated acidity is complicated with notes of orange and ripe peach. You encounter an incredible amount of finesse and breeding.
Keller has become one of the most hunted producers in the world. I'll wrap this up. I encourage you to get your orders in early.
