Lafarge 2005-2018:
From Bourgogne Rouge to Clos des Chênes

Posted by Ian McFadden

It's been a long time since I've been able to offer a list of Lafarge like this.

I'm constantly on the hunt for Lafarge. Still, it's rare that we have any real breadth or depth of the wines. Lafarge's production is modest and after tasting the wines, many people become obsessed with them.

For me, there are times when I can imagine drinking nothing besides Lafarge. The wines have an understated grace that borders on magical.

Across the range, Lafarge's wines have a gorgeous clarity and precision. The list below ranges from Lafarge's 2005 Bourgogne Rouge to his underappreciated work in Beaune, and finally his famed Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs and Clos des Chênes. There's also a healthy amount of his Volnay. It's a wine that I cellar and reach for often.

I'm excited to be able to offer this collection of Lafarge. I imagine that it will be quite some time before I'll have the opportunity to offer a similar range of his wine. The soulfulness and age-worthiness of Lafarge shouldn't be missed.
