"Larmandier-Bernier is one of the finest estates in the Côte des Blancs, producing wines of unusual detail and clarity of expression." -Peter Liem
Larmandier-Bernier's wines are laser beams of terroir laid bare. They offer some of the most riveting and assertively mineral expressions of Chardonnay.
When Larmandier-Bernier hits their mark, the wines possess a peerless transparency. In 2013, Larmandier-Bernier turned out a stunning collection. They rival their 2008s but possess even more mineral drenched clarity.
As is often the case, Terre de Vertus is a standout. This is the iconic wine of the estate and the 2013 dramatizes the heights that the wine can reach. it has unadorned earth and incisive minerality that has a wonderful radiant length. There's a raw purity and finesse that's jaw-dropping.
The 2013 vintage in Champagne is one of our favorites in the past couple of decades. It was a cool, throw-back vintage with many growers harvesting in October, which is very late by recent standards. The vintage produced Champagnes of riveting clarity and incredible length and finesse. Larmandier-Bernier simply thrived in this vintage.
Like many people, I cut my teeth on grower Champagnes with Larmandier-Bernier almost two decades ago. Pierre Larmandier was one of the first to practice biodynamic viticulture. He picks ripe grapes, vinifies in barrels and old foudres, and the results are revelatory. It's really nice to see Terre de Vertus in top form.
