Lauer 20th Anniversary Large Format!

Is this the biggest Lauer email since we introduced the estate to the U.S. in 2009? The simple answer is: Yes!

When we first introduced Florian Lauer to the U.S. with a series of emails featuring both his 2007 and 2008 wines, we obviously had no idea the phenomenon Lauer would become.

He had only just begun: 2005 marked his first vintage.

In the past two decades, Lauer has had a profound effect on the course of German wine. At the time, his uncompromising focus on old, pre-1971 vineyard names was nothing less than revolutionary. Today, it has become commonplace.

At the time, his belief in the inherent beauty, balance, and finesse of wines with just a touch of residual sugar (neither truly dry nor off-dry) was considered financially impractical. You sold "dry" or "sweet" wines: those were the options.

Today, it has inspired an entire cottage industry in "natural-ferment" German Rieslings, neither dry nor off-dry.

And so it is that with the incoming 2025 vintage - Florian Lauer's 20th vintage - we celebrate with a series of large-format bottlings of five of his most consequential wines. See below for all the details.

The rarity here cannot be overstated.

In the nearly twenty years that Lauer's wines have come to the U.S., the only large formats offered have been in 2019, when "Barrel X" celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The estate is taking pre-arrival orders. We all have until Tuesday to secure a modest amount of these special large-format bottlings. This will not happen again soon.

The 2025 vintage comes to market with high expectations. Early reports place it in the general context of 2015. The wines have depth and power, yet remain poised and fresh.

As always with vintages, only time will tell. Unfortunately, to secure a large-format bottling, time is the one thing we do not have.
