"This is excellent and I would go so far as to observe that it's the best vintage for the Clavoillon in a long time." -Burghound
For many years, Leflaive has resided at the very highest level of white Burgundy. Right there with Coche-Dury, Lafon, Roulot, and Ramonet.
For the past decade, Leflaive has really kicked things into overdrive. They are producing some of the greatest wines that I've tasted from the domaine.
The 2021s flaunt how amazing Leflaive's current wines are. This is an especially pure and tension-filled vintage.
Today, I'm very excited to offer Leflaive's 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon sharply priced at $369.95.
There's no getting around the fact that Clavoillon can be overlooked among Leflaive's 1er Crus. It doesn't have the distinctive power of Pucelles or the intense minerality of Combettes.
With that said, catch Clavoillon in the right vintage, and you'll be wowed by its harmony and the mineral delicacy of its spine. In these vintages, Clavoillon can deliver some serious value relative to the other 1er Crus. The 2021 is a case in point: Combettes is around $710-750 and Pucelles is around $780-800.
This is certainly one of those vintages. The 2021 Clavoillon has a striking focus and kinetic intensity. Burghound is spot on when he writes, "This is excellent and I would go so far as to observe that it's the best vintage for the Clavoillon in a long time." I really like the combination of mineral grip and floral top notes.
Few things make me happier than witnessing Leflaive firing on all cylinders. The 2021 Clavoillon is certainly such a moment. At this sharp price, it's not to be missed.
