Stated simply, this is a serious deal on one of Burgundy's iconic estates.
We always look towards Clavoillon for where quality and pricing so irresistibly intersect.
Still, these mags of 2016 deliver even more impressive value. I'm happy to offer a very small parcel of 2016 Clavoillon in magnums for $379.95 each. For comparison, the two other prices that you'll find for the wine are $419-455.Â
There's no getting around the fact that Clavoillon can be overlooked among Leflaive's 1er Crus. It doesn't have the distinctive power of Pucelles or the intense minerality of Combettes. With that said, Clavoillon can wow with its harmony and underlaying mineral delicacy.Â
The 2016 is deep and powerful, backed up by plenty of energy. There's serious persistence to the wine. The overall balance is spot on. For me, Puligny has always seemed like the sweet spot for 2016 white Burgundy. Leflaives' Clavoillon is a compelling example of this.Â
Before closing, I should repeat that this is a very modest parcel. Given the very sharp pricing, I expect this to sell out quickly.Â

Burghound: "Enough reduction is present to push the underlying fruit to the background. Otherwise there is a similar sense of energy to the slightly rounder and softer medium-bodied flavors that aren't quite as mineral-driven or complex but do offer fine persistence on the balanced finish. This should be approachable young if desired."
