Lauer's "Senior" is Grand Cru in every conceivable way, priced for the everyday. With the 2024 edition, lightning strikes... again.
We first introduced Lauer to the U.S. sixteen years ago with a stunningly miraculous wine we had discovered: Lauer's "Senior."

Sourced from 70- to 80-year-old ungrafted vines in a very cool section of the Grand Cru Kupp vineyard, the fact that this bottle can still be had for as low as $24.95 is one of the great miracles of the wine world.
If this is one of our most cherished bottles, one of our most anticipated offerings - a perennial staff favorite for close to two decades - the 2024 edition is one for the history books.
There are only two (maybe three?) vintages we'd hold at the super-elite level of the 2024: the inaugural 2008 and the 2021 - with a shout out to the sublime 2012.Â
As with the 2008 and the 2021, there is a fierce briskness, a live-wire of slate that ripples through the wine's focused core, shocking the palate with green citrus, herbs, and a saline minerality.
Yet, like the 2012, the 2024 has a profound, singular balance - simply no one has mastered the art of balance quite like Lauer.
The 2024er has the razor-sharp angles, yet they are more polished than either the 2008 or the 2021. The wine is ethereal and evaporative - this is among the lightest and most airy "Senior" we've ever experienced, yet it retains a delicate finesse, the unique and graceful poise that only Lauer's top bottlings have.
Yet "Senior," as we've mentioned, is priced for the everyday - like today.
