Like No Other Revisited:
1997 Château d'Yquem Half-Bottles

Posted by Ian McFadden

There is nothing like Yquem. Simply put, it has no peers.

Today, I'm excited to offer half-bottles of 1997 Yquem very sharply priced at $184.95 on bottles and $174.95 in 4-packs.

Along with 1990 and 1996, the 1997 Yquem forms a holy trinity of 90s vintages. The 1997 is loved for its grandeur of scale and regal elegance.

We offered the 1997 in June and I'm very happy to have another opportunity to offer it. The bottles are in-stock and are the perfect end to a holiday meal.

Yquem was the sole Sauternes classified as a First Great Growth in the original classification of 1855. It remains the sole Premier Cru Supérieur in Sauternes. Curnonsky, the famous 20th century Parisian "Prince of Gastronomes" included Yquem (along with Montrachet) among "the five great white wines of France.”

Yquem delivers an aristocratic, dizzying complexity. It's jam-packed with nuance and an almost overwhelming impact. The breadth and depth of Yquem is insane.

The 1997 shows its nobility in a profoundly deep and enveloping sort of way. It has ultra clear honeyed notes that are animated by citrus and further complicated by smoke, flowers, spice and an elusive nuttiness that ranges from marzipan to hazelnuts.

The lifespan is as shocking as the wine itself. There's an abundance of stories of Yquems that have seen their 100th birthday.
