Muschelkalk is one of the expressions of Pinot that blows people away. Each time we offer the wine, we are flooded with orders.
Enderle & Moll name their micro-production "Grand Crus" after the soil types on which they are grown: "Muschelkalk" translates to "limestone." This Pinot is, year after year, the most Burgundian wine from the estate.
The 2021 is simply superb; the strengths of the vintage - energy, lightness, rigor - play directly into the strengths and characteristics of this wine.
This is a tense and nervous Pinot Noir, compact with so much coiled-up energy; it unfurls in the glass or with a good decant. Shaved layers of crisp red fruit mix it up with taut darker heady fruit; the herbal aromatics are truly beguiling. The acidity is a live-wire, surging through the wine and somehow accentuating the limestone minerality and soil tones.
This is one of the best "Muschelkalks" Enderle & Moll has made - especially for you purists. Sadly, it was a very short vintage.
