Loire Benchmark:
2021 Pepiere Muscadet de Sevre-et-Maine Clos des Briords

Posted by Joe Salamone

Year after year, Pépière's Clos des Briords is our favorite Muscadet.

Clos des Briords takes Muscadet close to its platonic ideal of jagged saline minerality.

There's a beautiful honesty to Briords that causes us to buy it by the case every vintage. You might find more powerful and richer Muscadets, but Briords is unrivaled when it comes to luminous transparency and cut.

All of this goes a long way in explaining why wine lovers of all stripes go deep on each vintage of Briords.

Due to devastating spring frosts, the 2021 Briords will be in very short supply. The vintage has Briords classic minerality, but with more presence and a rounder profile. It is a very appealing vintage for the wine.

Clos des Briords is one of the most rock-solid and beloved values of French wine. There's no doubt focusing on the wine's value is myopic. Far beyond its price tag, it needs to be said that Briords has served as a prime example of the heights that Muscadet can reach and how well it can age.
